I met a version of myself at 22 that I couldn’t find again for years.
I was living in Malta at the time. Everything familiar had fallen away. No expectations, no history, no roles to hold. For the first time, I experienced myself without anything shaping me. I felt clear, grounded, and fully myself. Then I went back home. And I lost access to her. Not all at once, but slowly.
For years, I thought I needed to fix myself to get back there. So I did what most women do. I worked on myself. I tried to grow into the version I knew I could be.
But at the same time, I kept choosing environments that drained me. Homes that didn’t feel peaceful. People who needed me more than they met me. Situations that looked fine, but felt off once I was inside them.
Eventually, my body made it undeniable. The tension, the hyper-awareness, the inability to fully relax. That’s when I saw it clearly.
There was nothing wrong with me.
I was building a life that couldn’t hold me.
